London #take one

MY DAY IN LONDON BABY.

Thursday 6th September '12

So guys, I went to london, and didn't buy a heat magazine… haha
Today was such a bizarre, and last minute decision. I had been linked to enter a competition hosted by GHD and Select Model Management, and therefore was now set to take part in a photoshoot for the brand. To enter you needed to submit a photo showcasing your mop...

"THE PRIZE

Five winners will be given a full backstage hair and beauty transformation by ghd Creative Director and Session Stylist Kenna and our professional hair and make-up team, before starring in a photoshoot at the ghd air™ casting on the 6th September 2012. The five winners will also walk away with our new super-powerful hairdryer ghd air™ and have the opportunity to be seen by the Select Model Management team. The winners will also feature in some brilliant media coverage which could kick start a career in modelling."

Now if this wasn't an excuse to get to london I don't know what else would be. Train tickets booked, and off I went seeking stars and fame, JOKES, more like a sneaky a makeover and a cheeky bit of shopping before I go back to uni.

If you haven't guessed I absolutely loved my (long) day, and was pleasantly surprised that I didn't get lost, considering my sense of direction this was shocking!

The words to the instrammies:

  • amazing topshop and louise gray collaboration *HEART
  • the mug shot of me still smiling at 4 am in the morning (I didn't get home until 7 in the morning)

Mary&Millie

Photoshoot for ASOS

Arriving back in Preston on Thursday 19th July at approx 10:30pm I made my way back to my new house for next year, and for those who read the 'Where's My Keys?' post do not be alarmed I certainly did not make the same mistake twice! Walking through the door and flicking the light I nearly jumped out of my skin as my phone buzzed... I may have been knackered however, I some what found the energy to run upstair fresh up and grab a pair of heels and a clutch and head on out for drinks and a catch up with me cherub.

Students may have returned home, leaving Preston somewhat a ghost town riddled with chavs and no-so-pretty-boys (especially comparing to my recent perves watching Magic Mike), I still did not regret my discussion. -cannot beat a little dance and a cocktail.

Fast Forward » about 10 hours and that decision was perhaps questionable.. knackered I crawled out of bed and attempted to shake off the effects of last night. This is a highly un-recomendable move as I managed to crick my neck in the process. Grabbing the comfiest jumper and a pair of old faithful jeans, I stumbled down the stairs and out the door. With 5 minutes to spare I sourced my only cure... COSTA.

THE SHOOT

With my beautiful savourer in one hand I found my way to the Train Station where I met today's team. Greeted with a bunch of cheery smiles we moved to today's location for the shoot. The day started off fairly blue skyed however, an hour or so into the shoot and it soon changed its tune. You can always count on Preston for a bit of rain #truebritishsummer

Mary & Millie was founded by Poppy Waters, a graduate from UCLAN with a fab eye for style, with a  vision to provide affordable fashion to women. I for one definitely give the brand my backing!
The label hosts pop-up shops around the North which offering students a further 10% off their purchase, whilst also offering fabulous-fun-filled home parties! You could be the hostess with the mostest as you bag yourself 20% off your own purchases!

For more information on these events or if you want to book yourself a cheeky like house party do not hesitate to contact via the Facebook page.

I truly loved the day filled with all the gorge clothes (and the sneaky peaks of up and coming items for the brand). Guys I would definitely recommend this brand to you!

Roundup of the week...

This week has been a non-stop and action packed however, I am not complaining! I have absolutely loved every second but admittedly, I am feeling a little down hearted as to what next week holds; no photoshoots have yet to be pencilled in. BUT do not fear! I am going to focus all attention on getting my creative bug back on track, and hopefully bringing you some more inspiring/incentives to get down and crafty. So with my new mannequins waiting to be unwrapped, keep your eyes peeled as to what awaits my dearests.

Where Are My Keys?

Photoshoot ✔
Drama for the day..

Today was not only for the day of the photoshoot, but the day I would finally get to pick up the keys for my house next year. YAY.

After a long, but amazing, day in Wigan it was time to head back to Preston, this is when Alarms began to ring. Everyone's phone were going straight to answer service. Oh Boy..

After about a life time of waiting outside my new home I finally got in touch with someone. The problem: A mix up, my house mates thought i'd been and gone, and so hadn't left me a key whilst they headed on out for training (not to finish until 2am). Next move... blanket text messages to my nearest and dearest from Uni. 10 minutes later still no reply.
Solution?
A) A lonely Preston Park Bench
B) The 24/7 Library
C) .. well it was a Sunday so I was stuck for option

I opted for B) the Library. My lovely photographer, Amy Newton, dropped me off outside and aimed with a suitcase and a mobile (to carry out SOS messages to everyone I know in Preston or from Uni) I went to set up camp. Oddly the automatic doors would not open.. Strange I walked round the doors to notice a sign, "Summer Holiday Opening Hours 7:00am-7:00pm" Oh Boy, it was 6:59pm -just my luck. Thinking fast I decided to go get myself a hot chocolate from Wetherspoons, to calm my nerves and think of a new plan.

Just as the local Park bench began to look like my only option, a friend pulled through. They were coming to pick me up. THANK GOODNESS! So I finally found a bed to borrow until 6am, when they left for work. As I finally crawled into my pjs my phone whistled, about zillion texts messages off worried friends offering a bed or words of wisdom. After a few hours of zzzz I then trooped, in Smurf pj bottoms, to the beautiful Kate's home to grab a few more hours of shut eye before my journey to Wakefield.

Jeepers Creepers Someone call the Adam's family?

HE-BE-HE-BZZZZ

A facebook message later and I'm on a shoot inspired by the  theatrical director Tim Burton, he recently released 'Dark Shadows' which I'm sure your all aware of as the yummy Johnny Depp was the leading man.

The shoot, as you can see, was on location in which the stylist, Danielle Smith, sourced a local church to add to the theme and overall build up the setting and desired feel #spooky spooky.

I loved working as our little trio of Danielle, who just graduated from the University of Central Lancashire this year, and Jay Bailey, the photographer. Both were truly lovely and put me totally at ease -I'm still a complete newbee to these things and merely being asked was such a compliment!

We had so much fun including scaring the local public; the shoot was taken on a day of which Rainy-Preston actually had a heat wave! This meant I was dressed as a wannabe member of the Adam's family whilst everyone else was sporting the shorts and flipflop look -didn't look too cool (nor did I feel it -literally was roasting). Or trying to improvise and make ... wait for it 'Wind.' This may sound oh so easy but let me tell you flapping a piece of camera equipment at the right precise moment and angular is tricker than it looks.

Fab day and I hope you agree we produced some fab shoots!

Thought I'd include this to set the mood

I loved the swirly patterns the arches made especially paired with the colourful church windows -too pretty
We finally got the right angle on the wind

Duvet Chains

Prop: Duvet

Task: Tell a Love Story

The lovely Tasha Hagan was set another brief, a group task, of which they had to use a duvet to tell a story therefore, every shot was to include it. We had a short timeframe, in fact I think we only had an hour to shoot as the group literally had to shoot, edit and get back to class.
The setting was gorge, a quiet little park however, if you look real up close you man see my goose-pimples; it was FREEZING!
-it may have take an hour to shoot but oh boy I think it took about three mugs of hot chocolate to feel my legs again.

End results:

  • Shared many giggles (and shivers)
  • Entertained an old man and his dog (we had an audience)
  • Got slightly stuck up a tree

MEMO TO SELF
